On November 19, 2022 Rotarians and Interactors from area schools met at West Avenue Compassion to bag full Thanksgiving meals before delivering to local families in the North Central Rotary Club’s annual “Turkey Run.”
Turkey Run is an event in which Thanksgiving dinners are delivered to families who could use a hand to provide a great meal for the upcoming holiday. Turkey Run started in the early 2000’s. In the beginning, the club was only providing turkeys to families. With the generous support of H-E-B, the club is able to providing full Thanksgiving meals for 160 families from NEISD in the north central area of San Antonio! Families are selected though the club’s close work with the Family Specialists at the local schools.

The Family Specialists provide social services and support to families at their respective schools. Turkey Run has become a flagship service event for the North Central Rotary Club. The club also partners with the Winston School’s Interact Club, an offshoot of Rotary specifically designed for students to engage in service with Rotarians in their community.

Many of the Interact students from the Winston School have described Turkey Run as their favorite event, quoting, “Seeing the kid’s faces light up when dropping off a full meal is one of the best moments of the holiday season.” The North Central Rotary Club is very thankful for the support from the Interact club of The Winston School.
