From a Letter written by Kyle Thompson, President of Winston School Interact Club:

On behalf of the Winston School San Antonio’s Interact Club, I would like to formally invite you to our District Interact Conference!

The District Interact Conference for me has always been a very fun and educational experience. I have attended the conference for the last three years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

During the conference, District Rotary leaders share their perspectives on some of the many issues that Rotary is facing. While we do learn about Rotary’s youth programs, for me the most beneficial part of the conference is getting to know other Interact members in the district while participating in fun activities.

Soon after registration and breakfast, the district governor officially opens the conference by outlining his goals and objectives for the year. Other district leaders offer interesting information about Rotary and make everybody feel important. The most important way to reach out and encourage people to interact with each other is to make them feel included. Another important aspect is the presentations of the youth programs: RYLA, Youth Exchange, and Rotaract. The speakers have always been very enthusiastic and they offer relevant information. RYLA is very popular in this district, therefore everybody listens to the speakers. Every year, I learn something new and interesting from the speakers.

After lunch we have a group activity, in which everybody gets together and has some fun! One year, we had a drum corps, who taught us how to play drums in about 20 minutes, and after that we just had fun playing the drums and dancing. The point of this activity is to get everyone to talk and interact with new and exciting people. Many people come to the conference nervous and shy, and often only want to talk to their friends. These activities never fail to get people out of their shells and quickly make new friends!

Our exciting day ends with a short awards ceremony. The presiding officer makes closing remarks and the district governor shares the final message. The highlight of the awards ceremony is the coveted “Spirit Award”. I encourage every district Interact Club to attend the District Interact Conference on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Winston School. You will learn everything you need to know about Rotary and Interact, and you will make many new friends. I hope to see you then!
