During September we celebrate Basic Education and Literacy Month.  In District 5840 all our clubs have amazing service projects in this Rotary Area of Focus!
It has been an amazing couple of months as your Governor, visiting clubs within our District and discovering all the ways that Rotarians Serve to Change Lives through education and literacy!
Most clubs offer scholarships for high school seniors desiring to pursue a college education.  There are also scholarships for those who want to attend trade schools and current college students pursuing a degree.   Rotary Clubs are supporting our future leaders!

Many clubs are sponsoring EarlyAct and Interact clubs which start teaching leadership and citizenship skills early through service projects and self-governance.  EarlyAct is targeted to elementary schools with Interact active in high schools.  Rotaract programs are targeted to universities and communities.  These are designed for mentoring by Rotarians and other community leaders.  Once again, Service Above Self and Service Projects are the major focus of these clubs, along with networking and # 5 of our 4 Way Test – Have Fun!

District Grants and Global Grants support education and literacy throughout all our clubs and all over the world.  These grants build schools, provide computers, donate books and fund clean water and toilets for students.

And, let’s remember that we have amazing online courses for Rotarians at MyRotary.org on an amazing range of topics so that we can all continue learning new leadership and relationship skills.  These are free and so easy to access, simply create an account and take advantage of these resources!

The District Rotary Newsletter highlights new service project every month!  Together, all Rotarians are Making A Difference and continue to Grow More to Do More.
