With the first month into the new Rotary year already gone, I must admit it went by faster than I anticipated. It started by planning a few joint club District Governor visits and attending a club Board meeting via Zoom.
I also had the opportunity to attend Summer SCRYE (South Central Rotary Youth Exchange) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This event brought training to District Rotary Youth Exchange Officers from 33 Districts. Attending this event made me realize how lucky we are to have such a great District RYE committee. Some have served on the SCRYE board for many years and are extremely influential and helpful to other SCRYE Districts. They have also been busy coordinating the arrival of 8 RYE students from France, Sweden, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Taiwan, Spain, and Italy.

My first DG visit took me to Karnes city where AG Johanna Crespo-Quinones coordinated her clubs to attend the Lonesome Dove Fest fundraiser supporting the RC of Karnes. I was able to talk to members from RC of Karnes, RC of Kenedy, and RC of Beeville. It was a great way for clubs to collaborate, fellowship, and support each other. But most importantly it was a way for everyone to have fun! #CincoDeRotary5840

In the month of July we also took time to encourage clubs to apply for District Grants. I recognize our new certification process was not the easiest and, in some cases, confusing but it did help us move forward in the right direction to digitize our processes. Part of the Rotary Action Plan is to “adapt” and this was certainly a great example of how our members did not renounce to change. I’m looking forward to clubs putting their grant dollars to work as we continue to Create Hope in the World.
