We begin the new calendar year with an opportunity to reflect on the last 6 months of the Rotary year and adjust as needed so we can continue to #CreateHopeInTheWorld. We look at what is working, what is not working, and what we can improve with the intent of making our Clubs vibrant.
. It is also a time to look at our goals and determine a path to keep us on track. I have full confidence in the Club Presidents and their leadership to finish the year strong.

January always includes plenty of activity for our Youth Programs. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) occurred over MLK weekend in New Braunfels, TX where over 100 students from various high schools within D5840 came together for a life changing experience. The program offers opportunities for these students to learn about themselves and each other. Every year my RC of San Antonio North Central invites our RYLArians to come speak about their experience and we are always impressed at the level of confidence they demonstrate after they come back. D5840 Clubs financially support this youth program through our District dues. I encourage all Clubs to participate and get more engaged in understanding the impact this program has on our youth.

At the end of the month, I attended SCRYE (South Central Rotary Youth Exchange) with our DGE Kristen, and DGN Craig. SCRYE provides critical training for 32 Districts involved in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. It is critical that the DG line and RYE committee receive the appropriate training to comply with state and foreign regulations in order to provide our inbound and outbound students a wonderful experience. As I’ve mentioned before, our RYE committee is very engaged as leaders in SCRYE and we are very lucky to have these dedicated Rotarians in D5840.

Looking forward to what’s ahead we will have another D5840 All-Hands zoom meeting on February 5, 2024 at 6:30PM to hear from our District leaders. They will provide updates on Membership, Foundation, Public Image, Service, and Learning. We also have many upcoming events to look forward to, our Membership Recognition lunch and our Club Celebration Cruise are already in the planning stages.

As I come close to complete all my joint club DG visits, I’m always amazed at all the great work our Clubs do for their members and communities while having fun. THANK YOU for all you do!
