Another month has come and gone with only 4 months left of this Rotary year. My focus now is to help our clubs reach the goals they set at the beginning of the year. We are accountable for our own success. Clubs have done a great job this year and I would like each club to receive the recognition from Rotary International through the Rotary Citation.
The constant energy from the clubs also keeps me motivated. I have really enjoyed participating in several club events and joint club DG visits this month. The joint club DG visit with the RC of San Marcos, RC of Dripping Springs, and RC of Wimberley put Rotary on the front page of the San Marcos newspaper. It was a great evening for fellowship and collaboration between clubs. The RC of Seguin, RC of Seguin Sunrise, and RC of Gonzales came together for a joint club DG visit to fold cranes. While they were not too eager about the activity at the beginning, I could tell everyone had a great time at the end.

Mental health issues continue to be present at schools and I’m glad to see my home RC of San Antonio North Central provided the ability to address mental health in different capacities. The club recently funded a Serenity room for faculty at Eisenhower Middle School. This room is set up so that the faculty can use it when they need a mental break during their day. It is the second of three Serenity rooms at NEISD middle schools sponsored by RC of San Antonio North Central.

During Mardi Gras, DGN Craig Hardy and I attended the Mardi Gras parade promoting Rotary along with other non-profit organizations in San Antonio. Thank you, Don Yeaton from RC of San Antonio Northwest, for this extraordinary and FUN opportunity to bring awareness about Rotary to our community.

Rotary’s theme for February is Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution. I am proud of D5840 for supporting a Peace Leadership Academy in Corrymeela, Ireland through our Global Grant program. This project introduced me to the San Antonio Peace Center, and we now have a wonderful partnership. We will help each other bring awareness of our organizations as we #CreateHopeInTheWorld together.

I’m also looking forward to March as we celebrate and recognize our members with 20 or more years of membership. The planning committee has been hard at work to make sure this is a special event for all Rotarians, and I hope to see you there.
