October means cooler weather, falling colorful leaves, Rotary Economic & Community Development Month and, of course, World Polio Day, Sunday October 24th.

Let’s talk Polio!  We are literally so close to eradicating this disease. Only two (2) new cases of Polio have been reported this year from January thru September. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supports our efforts with a 2:1 match for every dollar we raise!  Once again our goal for the US is $50M raised, for a total of $150 after matching funds!
We can do this, we can silence the naysayers, polio can be a memory for the world history books. Our goal for this year is that each member donate an average of $20.26 per year to eradicate polio between now and 2026.

With approximately 2500 members in our District we can raise $20.26 x 2500 for a total of $56,650 which will be tripled to $151,950 for the district.

AND, Here’s a stretch goal for all District 5840 members:  $25/person gift to Polio Plus x 2500 members = $62,500 total.

As a further incentive, we ask all clubs to consider using club Paul Harris Points to match all gifts of over $100 from members!

So, let’s celebrate October, raise funds for Polio Plus and come together as a District  to volunteer on Oct 31st at Morgan’s Wonderland, providing Service Above Self for some very deserving kids & adults.
