There were several World Polio Day events held by clubs in our district. The intent of these events is to bring awareness of Polio and to raise funds to help eradicate this terrible virus. Currently, there are only three places in the world where polio cases remain. Polio is still active in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and more recently in the Gaza Strip.
One of these events, “Pints for Polio” was held at Tusculum Brewing Company in Boerne supported by the Rotary Club of Boerne, Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club, Dominion Club of San Antonio, and the Fair Oaks Rotary Club. A total of 62 Rotarians and guests attended this event which generated more than $2,400 for the Rotary Foundation designated specifically for the PolioPlus program.
It was a festive evening where members from the clubs had a chance to meet each other, visit about their own clubs activities, and enjoy the beverages. Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club President Reg Cully thanked everyone for supporting the event and for raising funds for this international project. Event Coordinator and a Boerne Sunrise Rotarian, Cha Karulak, thanked all those who attended and gave a quick update on the status of Polio and the impact our donations have in support of the PolioPlus program.
