According to data from the Southeast Regional Climate Center (SERCC), at least six Texas cities with the longest historical record have had their hottest summer.
San Antonio is one of them. This summer is being referring to as "meteorological summer". The heat began in earnest in April, then was followed by the state's second-hottest May on record. For years the Rotary Club of Boerne (Noontime) has donated fans for local seniors - but this year it was especially important. Not only was the weather hotter than usual; but the rising gas and food prices left many seniors struggling. Rotarians purchased and assembled the fans for the Kronkosky Senior Center in Boerne.

According to the Department of Energy, circulating fans create a wind chill effect that will make people more comfortable in their home, even if it's also cooled by natural ventilation or air conditioning. This allows seniors to raise the temperature on their thermostat and save on their energy bill. The Department estimates at least a 4-degree cooler effect of using a fan in a room with air conditioning due to the wind chill.
