On Saturday, October 26, the Winston School Interact Club with the supervision of Interact District Chair and Interact sponsor Mike Canales assisted 10 children and their mothers from Acuna for a fun day at Morgan’s Wonderland. Of the children who attended the park, three have down syndrome, three had just completed their final treatment for leukemia, and the remaining had challenges with gross motor activities.
The guests were also supported by 42 club members including spouses from the Acuna A.C. Rotary Club. Gloria Wilson, International Chair for our district was there to offer encouragement and assistance for the event. In the past, the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club and the Winston Interact Club would host a group of children and their mothers from Acuna at SeaWorld. A decision was made to move to Morgan’s Wonderland to provide the children with more suitable opportunities to take advantage of the appropriate playground equipment and rides.

It was quite obvious the children enjoyed themselves at the park and moms were so happy to see smiles on their children’s faces. The kids were hugging the adults and volunteers with joy and appreciation.

At park closing time all were treated to chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, French fries, and ice cold water donated by Boerne Sunrise Rotarian Steve Artale. Artale is the owner of the Hungry Horse Restaurant in Boerne and has graciously provided dinners for this event for 20 years.

Over the past 23 years this event has given many children that have had special needs with happy memories. This International project and event is enjoyed by both Rotary clubs with assistance from the Winston Interact Club.
