The Rotary Club of Kyle aims efforts toward helping homeless students in Hays County over the next year. Hidden homelessness is hard to define; however, it is a reality to 200+ students within Hays County. Students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, who share housing with others due to economic hardships or similar reasons may be identified as homeless.

“Although we may not meet the students or their family directly, we are working with Hays CISD representatives to fulfill specific needs” stated Jason Nebgen, President of the Rotary Club of Kyle. “This is an effort that all of our members believe we can make an impact by working together with the entire community.”

The most recent efforts assisted a family that found themselves without a permanent home after a tragic accident. Partnering with Wayfinders Church and gathering community members, the Rotary Club of Kyle coordinated with Hays CISD. “As a collective whole of hearts, we provided housing for the month. Others soon jumped in providing gas cards so the family could go to the hospital to visit a much-loved father and husband.” Stated Dr. Pharr, District Homeless/Foster Liaison.

The Rotary Club of Kyle’s next efforts are to collect much-needed items each month that will be distributed to the students.
