In the vibrant landscape of Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch’s activities, a heartwarming story unfolds, weaving together the worlds of technology and tradition, empathy, and action. Meet Richard Sullivan, a recent graduate of Texas State University and Software Engineer at Def-Logix, Inc., whose journey with the Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch showcases the profound impact one individual can make through a simple yet profound gesture.
Sa Huynh, the current president of the Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch, recognized something special in Richard from the moment they began working together. His empathy, perceptiveness, and a genuine willingness to assist his peers stood out. Little did they know that this collaboration would blossom into a beautiful expression of compassion and Rotary spirit.

One day, as Richard greeted Sa in her office, their conversation took an unexpected turn. An origami crane on Sa’s desk caught his eye—the universal symbol of peace. His revelation that he could quickly craft these delicate birds marked the beginning of a meaningful journey.

Sa, deeply engaged in Rotary projects, shared the District Governor's initiative—a call for all Rotary clubs to create peace cranes for a symbolic installation. The origami crane, rooted in Japanese tradition, carries a poignant history. It symbolizes hope, healing, and the pursuit of a world free from the ravages of war. The story takes a poignant turn as it connects with the tale of Sadako Sasaki, a young victim of the Hiroshima bombing, and her thousand paper cranes.

During the Christmas season, a time when emotions run high, Sa found herself supporting her roommate through a difficult journey to Dallas as he grappled with the impending loss of his mother. In this challenging moment, Richard's kindness shone through. He reached out to Sa with a remarkable gift—100 intricately folded peace cranes, a gesture that transcended mere paper and echoed the profound spirit of Rotary.

Sa was deeply moved by the thoughtfulness embedded in each crane. The origami birds, each a symbol of peace and resilience, mirrored the very essence of Rotary's mission. In this unexpected gesture, Richard not only demonstrated his commitment to the Rotary cause but also became a conduit for solace and support during a difficult time.

As the Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch prepares to contribute their peace cranes to the district-wide installation, this tale serves as a reminder of the transformative power of compassion and the enduring impact that a single act of kindness can have on a community.

In the grand tapestry of Rotary, where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together with a shared vision, Richard Sullivan's story stands as a testament to the enduring values of peace, understanding, and the unwavering spirit of service. The origami connections serve as a beacon, illuminating the path towards a world where the folds of compassion create a tapestry of enduring peace.
