The Rotary Club of San Antonio provided 12 teachers from Uvalde, Texas nearly $8,000 worth of Amazon Wish List items for their classrooms.

Uvalde suffered tragedy on May 24, 2022, when 19 of the Elementary Students and 2 teachers were killed in a massacre perpetrated by a local man with an AR 15 weapon at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

The San Antonio Rotary Club wanted to do something for the school and in discussions with Uvalde Rotary President Myra Vasquez and San Antonio Rotarian Steven Silver, it was decided that the Club would provide what these teachers wanted and needed for the upcoming year using an Amazon Wish List. Under the leadership of Rotary Club of San Antonio President Carla Martinez Riedl, the Club raised $3,000 and Mr. Harvey Najim, a San Antonio philanthropist, added $5,000 to the effort.

The supplies were distributed at the Uvalde Returns to School Day held on August 14, 2022. A small contingent of Club members attended the event. The teachers and other Uvalde locals voiced their appreciation for the project.
