Sonja Simmons of the Davis Moon Project provided a mission update at the August 30th noon meeting. Simmons, a former Wimberley Rotarian and chapter President, was delighted to see some familiar faces and meet some new members.
In 2008, she adopted her son Davis from Ethiopia, and wanted to do something in appreciation. What began as a literacy project and a small library for Pre-Kindergarten students has grown tremendously to serve over 2,000 children in grades PK-8 in the Kadara region of Arbegona, Ethiopia. She co-founded the Davis Moon Project to provide desks, books, uniforms, supplies, and a team of volunteers who visit every 24 months to improve the facility. When school is not in session, the facility is utilized by the community as a medical clinic.
