News From Around District 5840
DG Kristy Vandenberg's May Message
Happy Cinco de Mayo!  May's theme is Youth Service Month and for many of you, your Youth Projects are coming to an end as the kids prepare for graduation and look forward to summer vacation!  It is an exciting time!  I spoke with a class of 2nd Graders and 3rd Graders yesterday about Water Safety and staying safe around the water!  We read together information from the Josh the Otter program which has been endorsed by Rotary International.  It was a great time, with excellent readers and singers in Harper ISD.

Rotary Youth Exchange is back for the 2022-2022 year!  How exciting to send our youth abroad and at the same time host high school students from other countries to get a taste of South Central Texas Rotary Clubs.  I know that all the clubs participating and their host families and outbound students will have great stories to share.  What better way is there to promote Peace than to experience another country's culture through the eyes of a student?  Kudos to our Youth Exchange Committee for all their hard work interviewing and training both outbound & inbound students as well as host families.  They are all truly silent Heroes to all the kids who participate as without them, this program would not happen!!

Fredericksburg's First Craft Festival

A fabulous new festival for Fredericksburg! Rotary’s June event will showcase local hospitality, Texas craft beers.

Mark your calendars and get ready to wet your whistle on June 10-11 for the first Fredericksburg Craft Beer Festival. This event is sure to become another of this town’s incredible attractions for fans of the suds.

Fredericksburg’s history with beer goes way back, with a brewery being established way back in the early days of the Nimitz Hotel. Others remember sidling up to the bar at the old White Elephant Saloon and ordering beers.

New Club Chartered!
District 5840 and the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch would like to announce our district's newest and greatest club. The Rotary Club of District 5840 to Combat Human Trafficking was chartered by RI on April 5th, 2022. This is our district’s first cause based club.

These club members are ‘on fire’ to combat human trafficking in all aspects of society. They know the issues and are prepared to share all their knowledge and strategies with other Rotary clubs. A charter party is in the works.

Congratulations to this awesome Rotary club. Can’t wait to see what these members accomplish.
