August started with some great news from our Rotary Regional Membership Chair Alex Johnson. He informed me that D5840 was the only District in Zone 25B to have ended the RY22-23 with a gain in membership. This is the result of an outstanding effort from our District Membership Team last year that I know will continue this year.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, providing us with the opportunity to learn about and recognize risk factors and warning signs of suicide, support and refer those that struggle and save lives.
August 9, 2023 was a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.

On Saturday July 29, Rotary Club of San Antonio members and friends gathered on the campus of Haven for Hope, for their monthly volunteer service-day project. Approximately 40 volunteers came together to beautify the entrance to the campus by painting light poles, walls and handrails.
What was your most memorable Rotary service project? The first project I was involved in was Snack Packs For Kids at Cambridge. It opened my eyes to the amount of children that can go hungry even in an affluent community. This tore at my heart, from packing the bags to delivering them in the mornings!
Monday evening, August 7, was Meet the Teacher night at Boerne Fabra Elementary School. Fabra will be resurrecting the Early Act Program with the help of the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club (Tuesday mornings) and the Boerne Noon Rotary Club (Friday lunch). When approached, Principal Troy Latiolais was more than happy to support the new club. Early Act is a school wide program that will allow students from all ages 5 (kindergarten) to 11 years old (5th grade) to participate.
District Membership Co-Chair (now District Governor Elect), Kristen Salazar, visited five clubs in District 5840 over the last two months to bring a special delivery. These five clubs participated in the Membership Madness Challenge last Rotary Year and met the requirements to receive a customized banner for their Club purchased by District 5840.

District 5840 Clubs welcome eight inbound students who began arriving in Texas on August 2. They are Mariana from Brazil hosted by Beeville, Loraine from France hosted by Boerne, Nora from Germany hosted by Fredericksburg Morning, Oscar from Spain hosted by New Braunfels, Ruby from Taiwan hosted by New Braunfels Downtown, Edoardo from Italy hosted by Pleasanton, Paul from Belgium hosted by San Marcos and Kellie from Sweden hosted by Seguin.
"Del Rio Cravola Club Project" Fellow Rotarians Rey Sanchez, Diana Barrientos and Gregorio Arrambide, with the help of volunteers, speperated school supplies for each elementary campus in Del Rio. Other volunteers Nathan Villarreal, Abel Lopez and Schuyler Burdett.
Members of Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch gathered at member's home for fellowship and a backpack stuffing service project. They raised money and collected donations for their annual school supply drive for students from low-income families. They raised a total of 47 backpacks filled with school supplies which beat their record of 32 backpacks last year!
The Canyon Lake Rotary Club was the first to bestow the requested 20 origami cranes to DG Monica Gutierrez at the club's installation dinner on June 22. Two crane trees were used as decorations for the banquet to the delight of the DG. Gutierrez had the honor of installing the club's officers for the new Rotary year as well as presenting Paul Harris Fellow pins of varying achievement to six club members. Club PE Tim Fredrickson was the newest club member to join the PHF ranks.

The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch help Boerne Parents get their kids ready for the upcoming school year recently. At the "Resource Rally", dozens of Rotarians guided Parents and Students to the right places to register, get immunization, sign up for free/reduced school meals and even receive free school supplies! Boerne ISD students are now off to a great start to the school year!
Nimitz Rotary is holding their 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Funds raised will be used for improvements at historic Cross Mountain Park, including replacement of the existing, deteriorating, cross. Simultaneous with the golf tournament will be a Bunco Party held in the clubhouse of Lady Bird Golf Course.

The Rotary Club of San Antonio – Club 52 – founded in 1912 has a new and permanent home at the newly completed Dawson Family Hall within the historic Witte Museum (1926) in near downtown San Antonio. In perhaps a first for a large Club (~400), our Club now has a permanent weekly home for its meetings.
Club Rotario Empresarial Acuna (Mexico) invited the Del Rio Rotary Club to help them feed stray dogs and cats who are living on the streets in Acuna. Many Del Rio Rotarians donated dog and cat food for this worthy cause.

On June 30th San Antonio Sunrise Rotary presented a Paul Harris Fellowship award to Tracey Alaniz. The club has a strong tradition of supporting the Paul Harris foundation and is now a 100% Paul Harris club.
