DG Monica Gutierrez's Message for June
As I write this, my last DG message for the year, I can’t help but to reflect on all the wonderful things we did this Rotary year. Everything I had envisioned our District accomplishing turned out better than I could ever have imagined. And that’s because of ALL the Rotarians who had an open mind and a willingness to do things a little differently. From accommodating my work schedule and holding joint club DG visits to leadership meetings and District All-Hands on the 5th of the month #CincoDeRotary5840.

D5840 All Hands Meeting - June 5th
Join us on Wednesday, June 5th6:30PM - 7:30PM for the D5840 All Hands Meeting on Zoom and hear from the District Leadership. Updates from Foundation, Membership, Public Image, Service and Youth Services will be provided. All are welcome! Zoom link will be sent out a few days before the event.
You're Invited to Attend the District Installation 
You're invited to attend the Installation Dinner for 2024-2025 District Governor Kristen Salazar on Wednesday, June 26th at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse, 10223 Sahara Dr, San Antonio, TX 78216, USA. The evening will begin at 6PM for cocktails, followed by dinner at 6:30PM. Dress code is Roaring 20's. Cost is $40/person or $300 for a table of 8. Click to Register.

What was your most memorable Rotary service project? My most memorable Rotary service project was serving as Group Study Exchange Team Leader to Argentina. Seeing Rotary’s impact of service projects at the international level was very inspiring.

Kerrville's Josh the Otter Water Safety Program
Every year we have Rotarians volunteer to go to local elementary schools to talk to them about water safety. We use the Josh the otter puppet and book and it’s always a hit with the kids.

Hondo D'Hanis Dedicates New Gazebo

President's Volunteer Service Award Recipients
Fourteen Winston School Interact Club members earned the President's Volunteer Service Award this school year. They received their medals at the school's end of year Award Ceremony on May 15, 2024.

Rotary Club of New Braunfels Awards Four With Scholarships
The Rotary Club of New Braunfels recently awarded four local high school students with scholarships totaling $36,000. These graduating seniors competed against 75+ other students from the NBISD and CISD school districts for their chance at receiving a scholarship worth $1,500 for each semester of their education at a 4-year, 2- year, or CTE institution. 

Vino & Bingo for a Cause
Nimitz Rotary partnered with Texas Heritage Vineyard's quarterly Vino and BIngo for a Cause event raised over $2,500 to be presented to local nonprofit Heart of the Hills/MOM Center, an organization that aids families during their pregnancy journey and beyond.

The Rotary Club of San Antonio held its 11th annual member spelling bee on May 15. Five brave members took part to raise money for the club's projects and the Rotary Foundation.

Exchange Students Continue to Give
Even though the exchange year is coming to an end for 5840's current inbound students, their willingness and commitment (even giving up a Saturday) to share the story of their Rotary Exchange and what Rotary means to them continues. Three students recently attended the District Leadership Conference on May 11 in San Antonio to share their experiences.

Rotary E-Club San Antonio Promotes Literacy for Summer
The Rotary E-Club of San Antonio promotes literacy at the Ed Franz Academy through their "Summer Literacy Readiness Backpacks." Funded by District grants, these backpacks are filled with books, dictionaries, journals, and pencils.
Oak Hills Volunteers at Food Bank
The RC of San Antonio Oak Hills recently volunteered at the @safoodbank boxing and packing 1,400+ boxes of food. Thank you to Community Service Chair and President Elect Derek Matthys for organizing this opportunity. 
San Marcos Awards 12 Scholarships
The Rotary Club of San Marcos awarded 12 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to 12 seniors attending high schools in the San Marcos area, for  total of $18,000.

Early Act in Fair Oaks Ranch
Fair Oaks Ranch EarlyAct Club ended the school year with a distinguished Rotarian speaking to elementary students on the benefits of serving one's community. This EarlyAct Club is just one example of the various youth programs served by the Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary Club.
Donation for Children's Day in Mexico
In honor of Children’s Day or Dia de Los Niños, The Rotary Club of Del Rio partnered with Club Rotario de Cd. Acuña, Mexico, to provide toys, books and treats to the children in the ranches in the outskirts of town.

The Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch partnered with Hello Gorgeous Boutique to host an inspiring fashion show that beautifully blended style and substance on May 19th. This event was not just about showcasing the latest fashion trends; it also served as a powerful platform to promote Mental Health Awareness, our Rotary district's monthly theme.

Rotary Supports Mothers and Babies
In-coming President of the Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary Club Mary Thompson is all smiles at a recent tour of the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center. Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary made a financial donation to the center, which helps Boerne-area women in times of crises by providing clothing, formula, pre-natal services and more. 
Veterans Appreciation Breakfast
Twice a year, we host a free veterans appreciation breakfast. We always get A great turnout of volunteers. We also donate to their food pantry.
Youth Leadership Awards ceremony 2024
With our friends from the community alongside us, the Rotary Club of Kerrville proudly recognized the top nominated 5th graders from across Kerr County for this prestigious recognition. Each child from every elementary school in the Kerr County area were honored for their heartfelt commitment to leadership, service and education.
