With the first month into the new Rotary year already gone, I must admit it went by faster than I anticipated. It started by planning a few joint club District Governor visits and attending a club Board meeting via Zoom.
Rotary has long been involved in mental health and wellness initiatives. Our culture of Service Above Self builds community and promotes acts of kindness, two proven methods to build and maintain mental wellness.
We are excited to announce the rollout of our new ROTARY ROCKSTAR CHALLENGE! The Rotary Rockstar Challenge was designed to help Clubs increase their public image skill set. The more you promote your Club, the better the odds are at increasing your membership. It is a win-win all around!

There will be a Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 from 8:30AM to 4:30PM at the Spring Creek United Methodist Church, 28970 Old Fredericksburg Rd, Fair Oaks, TX 78015. Classes will begin at 9AM. The institute is $50 and is open to all Rotarians. Click to Register.
Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, and Optimist clubs will cooperate in community service projects the week of September 11th – 17th. Plan now for your Rotary and Rotaract clubs to build on existing relationships with other like-minded services or develop new ones to impact your communities.
What was your most memorable Rotary service project? My most memorable Service Project was the Guatemala Project helping a friend from Guatemala collect shoes for the children. Guatemala had experienced a very painful and dramatic disaster when a volcano named “Volcan de Fuego” erupted and the families lost everything.
Fredericksburg-Nimitz Rotary sold breakfast tacos during the Kiddie Parade on 4th of July and hot dogs and sausage wraps during and after the regular 4th of July parade. It was a great turnout and everything sold out.
The Winston School Interact Club attended the Christmas in July Festival in Uvalde, Texas on Saturday, July 8, 2023. This event was started last year to help the Uvalde community following the Robb Elementary tragedy. The focus of the event is to promote health and well-being. The Interact Club helped the Texas Diaper Bank pass out diapers.
On Sunday, July 9, 2023, the Rotary Club of San Antonio Pearl handed out food, including plates of lasagna and salad, as well as essentials, such as feminine hygiene products and other toiletries. On San Antonio’s Near West Side, the lunch benefitted about 168 individuals in need (and 2 pets), and was coordinated by Under The Bridge, Inc., a local nonprofit that has served San Antonio’s most vulnerable populations a warm meal every Sunday since 1988.
Nimitz Rotary and Texas Heritage Vineyard teamed up to raise money for the JROTC program at Fredericksburg High School. Texas Heritage had their quarterly VIno and Bingo for a Cause event and Nimitz Rotary provided food by donation along with a raffle for some great gift baskets. All proceeds from the bingo, food and raffle went to the JROTC. A check for $2,500 was presented to Devin Mullen from the JROTC. The Rotary Club of San Antonio South members laid sod with new homeowners, Saturday, July 22, at a new Habitat for Humanity home. We are excited for our forever home to be complete in August, said the couple. The house will shelter a family of five when complete. It was hot and hard work, but rewarding, said the Rotary members.
The five long term inbound students to D5840 during the 2022-23 exchange year have all safely returned home after completion of their 11 month exchanges to Fredericksburg, Boerne, New Braunfels (x2) and Seguin.
Past District Governor Kathy Hubbard swears in her husband, Ron Hubbard, at the Annual Installation Dinner. Mrs. Hubbard was also the first President of the Fair Oaks Ranch Club when it was chartered in 2012. Ron and Kathy share a deep commitment of doing good in the world!

When the Home Owners Association of Fair Oaks Ranch wanted to spread Patriotism with a patriotic Golf Cart Parade on July 4th, they looked no further than the Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary Club for Volunteers! Our members provided traffic control, Emcee services, even participation in the "Best Decorated" contest... proving Rotarians are leaders and servants in our community.
Nimitz Rotary is having their 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Lady Bird Golf Course on October 9th, 2023. Funds raised are earmarked toward their major project of replacing the historic cross at Cross Mountain Park. There will also be a Bunco Party held in the clubhouse on the same day.
