One thing I have noticed while visiting Rotary Clubs in District 5840 is how involved and motivated Rotarians are with Service Projects. Each Rotarian makes a difference in our communities with the power and energy to change the world which is reflected in the service projects. It is an honor to say “I am a Rotarian” knowing our District contributes so much to improve the lives of others with a Service-Above-Self attitude.

Arbor Day in America began in the early 1870s when a journalist, J. Sterling Morgan, and his wife moved to Nebraska and began planting a variety of trees and shrubs in what was primarily a flat stretch of desolate plain.
Fredericksburg Rotary Club picked up roadside trash along its designated route on US 290 West on Saturday, Sept. 24. Project leader Mike Elvir said the morning drew 30 members 15-16 high school Rotary Interact members, as well as the club's exchange student. After picking up trash, the group enjoyed breakfast tacos and camaraderie. It was a terrific morning of exhibiting “Service Above Self.”
We recently helped Mercy Gates Ministries with some demolition and cleanup. Work included tearing out two porches along with an outbuilding. We even busted up a concrete sidewalk. Tearing things apart was pretty fun, but loading it all in the dump trailer, not so much. Thank good ness we had the use of some excellent machinery.
More than a hundred volunteers helped to package food for the Rotary Rise Against Hunger event on Saturday, October 15 at First Lutheran Church in San Marcos.
The Winston School Interact Club traveled to Seguin on Saturday, October 8, 2022 to help the Seguin Sunrise Rotary Club with their annual fundraiser, the Guadalupe Fair Gates festival.
October 1, the Kenedy Rotary Club attended the Beeville Western Wear Parade in Beeville! We all wore western wear and our float won 2nd place out of 72 floats in the non profit category.
October 13-15 KABOOM!, Archewell Foundation created by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and community members along with Uvalde Rotarians help participate in a community playground build. The new playground at DeLeon Park located a few block from Robb Elementary, will be a happy and healing locations for the community children.
On September 17, 2022 the Kenedy Rotary Club attended the Karnes City Lonesome Dove Parade. There were 32 entries and we received 1st place in the clubs division.

he Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch recently assisted the Rotary Club of District 5840 to Combat Human Trafficking, who in conjunction with the Ransomed Life organization, presented training sessions in the schools for educators and parents on the awareness and prevention of child sex trafficking.

The Rotary Club of San Marcos presented a check for $5,000 to the Hays County Food Bank on November 9. It was part of a project in October called Feed the Hungry. Half of the gift came from a grant from Rotary District 5840 in South Central Texas. The project also raised money for San Marcos School Fuel and the international nonprofit Rise Against Hunger.
Members of Fredericksburg Nimitz club built a handicap access ramp for a trailer donated to a family of five. Some members also assisted with inside priming and painting to get the trailer ready for the family.
The Fredericksburg Nimitz Rotary won big on their first charity golf tournament. The tournament was a kick-off fundraiser for the club to raise funds for the replacement of the historic cross at Cross Mountain Park. All teams sold out and the silent auction and ladies' Bunco game were also big winners. All together, net earnings were over $30,000. The Rotary Club of Blanco County’s coat and blanket drive, held in October, was a huge success. The club gathered approximately 50 large bags of coats and blankets from the Blanco and Johnson City communities that were provided to refugees in northern Mexico.
On October 21, 2022, members of the San Antonio Airport Rotary Club presented English and Spanish-English dictionaries to the Third-grade classes at the Northeast Independent School District's Ridgeview Elementary School.
Sonja Simmons of the Davis Moon Project provided a mission update at the August 30th noon meeting. Simmons, a former Wimberley Rotarian and chapter President, was delighted to see some familiar faces and meet some new members.
The Rotary Club of Blanco County held a Pints for Polio fundraiser event on October 26. Club President, Harvie Lindeman, spoke about the history of polio and the eradication efforts. Some short videos were shown and attendees enjoyed a BBQ meal with beer or wine. All proceeds will go to Rotary's 2022 End Polio Now initiative.
