A Proud Moment for District 5840! As your Immediate Past District Governor, I am proud to announce that at the Rotary International Rotary Roadmap Awards program, our District was named District of the Year for Zone 25B for Rotary year 2025-2026!
The Rotary Roadmap is a framework Rotary International has created that helps districts and clubs set goals, measure progress, and focus their efforts in key areas such as Membership, Public Image, The Rotary Foundation, and Polio.
District 5840 is getting ready to walk for a polio-free world! On October 24, Rotarians, family members and friends will gather at beautiful Enchanted Rock to participate in the World’s Largest Polio Walk and support Rotary’s mission to End Polio Now.
And this year, we have something special to help us show our Rotary spirit—a special District 5840 T-shirt created specifically for the World’s Largest Polio Walk!
Across the district, Rotary clubs are raising a glass—and raising awareness—for a world without polio! Pints for Polio events bring Rotarians, friends, family and community members together for a little fun and a powerful purpose: helping Rotary finish the fight to end polio. On August 1, members from the Boerne Rotary Club, Boerne High School Interact Club, and Scout Troops 102 and 180 helped collect school supplies at the Boerne H-E-B in support of Communities in Schools “Stuff The Bus”. The Boerne Rotary Club sponsors the Interact Club and both scouting troops.
The Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch partnered with Texas A&M University–San Antonio’s ENGL 1302 students, led by Dr. Elizabeth Olaoye, to bring service-learning into the classroom.
As part of their first service project, students volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in San Antonio, gaining hands-on experience in construction while serving local families. Students learned to safely operate a table saw, paint materials, transport wood frames, and nail and assemble components.
On July 25, members of the Rotary Club of San Antonio South partnered with CASA (Child Advocates of San Antonio) to help make a difference for children and families in our community. Our Rotarians rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time to distribute much-needed school supplies to local families.
Every fall for many years the Rotary Club of San Marcos has packed hundreds of bags of school supplies for children in eight rural villages in Mexico, and for several child-serving nonprofits in San Marcos. The packaging this year was done by 30 volunteers on September 2, at the VFW Hall on Hunter Road.
Rotary Club of San Antonio, TX picked up our paintbrushes to bring to life Past President Paul Garro’s 10 gorgeous murals in honor of Easterseals’ upcoming 50th anniversary of empowerment. Of course, no major renovation project is complete without expert oversight! Easterseals Ambassador Enoch was making sure every smile -&- brushstroke reflected their living legacy of Hope.
There are many, many Rotarians who have experienced Alzheimer’s disease either directly or indirectly, through loved ones or friends and acquaintances. No one who has had this experience forgets the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s on everyone. Taking action to prevent, treat, or someday cure brain disease is what motivates the San Antonio West Rotary Club’s actions.
September is Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy Month, a time to celebrate the many ways Rotary clubs help people gain the knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to succeed. The Rotary Club of San Angelo recently brought that commitment to life by supporting Angelo State University’s Ram Pantry.
San Marcos Rotary donates funds and provides volunteers for School Fuel packaging events. School Fuel packages food for school kids every Thursday for distribution on Fridays. Rotary is mobilizing 10 or more volunteers every third Thursday to bag the food.
At the Rotary Club of Fredericksburg’s September 21 meeting, members stuffed bags for babies, stuffing approximately 160 bags that will be delivered to Methodist Hospital Hill Country to be given to newborns and their parents. Each bag contained two books and literature on the importance of reading to children.
Travis Elementary School in San Marcos recites the 4-Way Test every morning. They have an Early Act Club, sponsored by San Marcos Rotary, that raises $750 each year for a scholarship for a high school senior who attended Travis while in elementary school. For more than 15 years, the Rotary Club of San Antonio South has proudly partnered with our local fire department to help keep seniors safe and cool during the hot Texas summer months.
When temperatures climb above 100 degrees, extreme heat can be more than uncomfortable, it can be dangerous, especially for older adults. Unfortunately, some of our senior neighbors do not have air conditioning or may not be able to afford the cost of keeping their homes cool.
In the spirit of good sportsmanship Jourdanton Rotary Club President Shannon Chicoine visited the Pleasanton Rotary Club on Thursday to honor the annual President’s side wager on The Showdown of 97 between their two high school football teams. The losing team's Rotary President has to wear the opposing team's jersey to the winner's Rotary meeting.

The Oil Creek Classic, a fly-fishing tournament held each May, has been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Titusville, Pennsylvania, since 2014 to raise money for youth programs and scholarships.
