April's theme is Maternal & Child Health! I know that many of you are already involved with organizations in your communities providing programs and services in this area. When I look at the theme each month, I think about all the programs and services offered by our clubs that make us so relevant today.
Our first Grants Management Training Seminar is on Thursday, April 14 at 6:30PM on Zoom. Each Rotary Club in the District needs to attend one of the three trainings (check the District Calendar). Each club needs 2 Rotarians per club to be trained to be eligible for District Grants for the 2022-2023 year. Cost is $0 but you must register to receive the Zoom Link.
Katie Maloan is from Oklahoma. She is a senior at Trinity University in San Antonio and plans to graduate May 2022. Her majors are Political Science and International Studies with minors in French and Economics. She plans to obtain a Master’s in International Development, Paris School of International Affairs. Each Rotary Global Education Grant scholar must select from the Rotary Areas of Focus and align their program of study with this focus.

In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary Districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions.

School Fuel is a nonprofit in San Marcos that provides 1,000 needy k-8 students with food on weekends and over holidays, when in-school meals are not available. San Marcos Rotary was a $1,500 sponsor of the School Fuel 5k Run, and Rotarians paid to run/walk as well. In addition, Rotary had a table at the event to create awareness of the club.

District Governor Kristy Vandenberg was an honored guest as the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch recently celebrated it 10th anniversary during its weekly meeting. Past District Governor Lisa Herring was invited back to be the guest speaker in a fitting tribute to her keynote address at the club’s Charter Ceremony 10 years ago. Eleven of the original charter members were recognized and honored at the meeting along with a video presentation of the club’s 10 year. history

Fredericksburg-Nimitz Rotary President Cindy Turner presented a check for $5,000 to Denise Rizzo with the Hill Country Community Needs Council to continue with all the good work they do for the Gillespie County community.
Fredericksburg Morning Rotary Club does a lot of service projects around youth and literacy, so when recently asked for volunteers to flip pancakes one Monday morning for the teachers and staff of Fredericksburg Elementary School, they were glad to send members to create heart-shaped pancakes on a cold February morning.
Oak Hills Rotary volunteered at the San Antonio Food Bank on Saturday, March 26th. Rotarians included President Rick Rhodes, Ken Donoughue, Kris Richter, Bruce Richter, Derek Matthys, Rae Saldana and Rick Tarbell. We served 112 families in 4 hours.
Today, you typically hear about bullying or violence in schools around the nation. But in Boerne ISD we have leadership that starts encouraging positive behaviors in our youth at an early age.
The Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Interact Club of the Winston School throw an annual party at Christmas for more than 90 children in the Shady Rest Mobile Home Park in Boerne.
The Frerdericksburg Rotary sanitation project in Katoma is going very well. It started in mid-January, and 2 of the 7 school's facilities are almost finished. As you may recall, the total project budget is approximately $104,000. One disbursement of $26,000 was sent in January to get the project started.
During the period of March 25-26, our four outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students participated in an extensive orientation to prepare them for their upcoming school year abroad.
